Frugal Living Tip:Never pay full price again on clothing.
How Much Can You Save? $5-$50+ Per Clothing Item
Making It Work:
Watching the prices of clothing creep up can be discouraging. After all, you want to look your best and you need good quality clothing to do that.
It’s still possible to purchase quality clothes and have some money left in your pocket. How? Never pay full price again on any clothing items. Instead, save money by purchasing sale and clearance clothing only or waiting on those big deals that come on the horizon. 😉
If you can resolve to shop for what you want to wear when it’s out of season you stand to save some pretty big bucks on clothes-shopping. For example, when the new clothing comes out in early spring, retailers will usually put plenty of winter clothing on sale and clearance. So, that’s the time to actually shop for your cold weather outfits.
Clearance items are clothing marked down to the absolute lowest because the retailer wants to get rid of it to make way for the new, next-season clothing that’s coming in.
You’ll notice pricing reduced by 50% or even 70% on clearance items.
Here’s an extra-frugal tip:
Ask for an additional percentage off of clearance items if you plan to buy more than 2 clothing pieces. Say to the salesclerk something like, “On these clearance pieces, could I get any better deal if I buy these 3 items?”
Surprisingly, you’ll see that more times than not, the salesclerk will give you another 10-15% off because the store wants to move those clearance items as quickly as possible. In the event the salesclerk doesn’t agree to give you any more money off, weigh out whether the clearance pricing alone is a good enough deal. You may decide to buy only one or two pieces instead.
This is usually when I buy for my daughter. When I see items on sale that I know are timeless fashion that she will love, I get the next size up. I have done this since before she was a baby, and it has allowed me to provide for her in ways otherwise I wouldn’t be able to. This keeps me on budget, while supplying her with fancy clothes that she absolutely loves, and even better is they are stored in bins so when she goes through those growth spurts, I am ready with her next size clothing and shoes.
TJ Max, Burlington Coat Factory, Kohls, JCPenney, Carters, Oshkosh, etc.… these are where we shop, and with memberships have even more discounts as well as receive points; to me it is two shopping sessions for one as the bonus points can even land for bonus store cash for the next shopping date.
So, remember never pay full price on your clothing again. Instead, shop off-season, especially sale and clearance items. Then, ask for additional money off clearance items, provided you plan to purchase 3 or more pieces. Sometimes you can even have more deals online. Shop around and you can afford to be picky in your choices, choice what you know will look good on you and your family. 😉
